Vampire: The Masquerade fans almost got their wish in 2019 when a sequel game developed by Hardsuit Labs was revealed along with a trailer and an expected release date in 2020. However, after a series of delays and the game’s development studio being dropped from the project, players have understandably been left with doubts about the current state of Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2.

It is still not known which development studio is currently working on Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2. But Fredrik Wester, the CEO of the game’s publisher, Paradox Interactive, has tweeted to reassure fans that the unnamed studio is making steady progress on Bloodlines 2, and that the game will be shown off when it is ready. This reassurance will come as a relief to fans who may have assumed that the game had been quietly canceled between the long waits for updates on the game’s development, although Paradox Interactive has confirmed that this was very nearly the case for Bloodlines 2.
There are still doubts as to what stage of development the game is currently in. A 20-minute gameplay trailer for Bloodlines 2 was revealed back in 2019, which would indicate that Hardsuit Lab’s version of the game was at one point nearing completion. Although, with almost 3 years of delays it is possible that the Bloodlines 2 that is currently in development has been heavily changed, or completely rebuilt in comparison to what was originally shown in 2019.
Updates from the publisher on Bloodlines 2’s development have been very sparse. Since 2020 players have only received a few short messages from Paradox Interactive confirming that Bloodlines 2 is still in development, with no other information on its current developer, or when fans can expect the game to be re-revealed. It is unclear what caused Bloodlines 2’s development troubles so close to its expected release date, but its sudden return to mostly radio silence hasn’t eased players’ concerns.
The Paradox Interactive CEO tweeted his reassurance as a blanket reply to questions he often receives from fans about Bloodlines 2’s production. But although fans may not be satisfied by vague assurances that the game is coming when it’s ready, it must be reassuring for the currently unknown development studio working on the game to know that many fans are still eager to sink their teeth into another Vampire: The Masquerade RPG when the game finally does come out.
